近年來雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate對抗風濕、鎮痛、強心、抗癌、降壓、平喘、清除自由基及抗疲勞等藥理研究取得了可喜進展,其成分主要含多羥基黃酮類化合物,具有明顯的抗炎作用。本研究以雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate為研究題材,探討雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate是否具有抑制癌細胞生長的能力。以不同乳癌細胞株 MCF-7、MDA-MB-453 及正常人類乳房表皮細胞株 HBL-100 進行細胞生長抑制實驗,結果顯示在 MCF-7、MDA- 453 細胞株中對雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate的感受性較好,在 100μg/ml 濃度下有抑制近 50% 生長率的效果,顯示雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate對於乳癌細胞有較明顯的抑制生長效果。以流式細胞儀檢測雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate對 MCF-7 細胞株細胞週期的影響,結果發現雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate會使 MCF-7 細胞株之細胞週期停滯於 G0/G1 期。此外,我們更進一步利用西方墨點法測量 P21、P27、P53、cyclin D1 及 CDK4 這些與細胞週期中 G0/G1 期相關蛋白質表現情形。結果發現 P21、P27 及 P53 蛋白在乳癌細胞處理 100μg/ml 雪蓮後,均有上升的趨勢,而 cyclin D1 及 CDK4 則是沒有變化。綜合以上實驗結果顯示,經雪蓮 (Saussurea involucrate作用後,P21、P27 及 P53 表現量上升,導致乳癌細胞分裂停留在G0/G1。    除了上述的研究之外,癌細胞對於免疫逃脫機制的探討目前由博士班二年級的鄭傑文同學研究中。中草藥萃取物對於前列腺癌細胞轉移機制的探討由博士班二年級學生郭柏村執行。台中慈濟醫院神經外科主任,林英超醫師負責中草藥萃取物對於阿茲海默症 (Alzheimer's disease) 的臨床研究。豐原醫院外科主治醫師,劉良智醫師研究中草藥萃取物對於乳癌病人治療的臨床研究。
